Burgas is in the final stage of the procedure for opening the first general education municipal school in the country, which will offer education according to the international program International Baccalaureate (IB). This was announced by the mayor of the city, Dimitar Nikolov, after a meeting with representatives of the international organization.

The process is not yet complete - the final decision of the international commission is expected within the month.

This critical stage is reached after an official application submitted in January 2025 and a successfully passed on-site inspection by external experts. During the inspection, a high rating was given for the material base, the modern equipment, and the level of preparation of the students, which is a key factor for obtaining accreditation.
