Historic Moment for Bulgarian Education
Burgas is in the final stage of the procedure for opening the first general education municipal school in the country, which will offer education according to the international program International Baccalaureate (IB). This was announced by the mayor of the city, Dimitar Nikolov, after a meeting with representatives of the international organization.
The process is not yet complete - the final decision of the international commission is expected within the month.
This critical stage is reached after an official application submitted in January 2025 and a successfully passed on-site inspection by external experts. During the inspection, a high rating was given for the material base, the modern equipment, and the level of preparation of the students, which is a key factor for obtaining accreditation.
What is the IB program?
The International Baccalaureate program is a globally recognized educational model that is applied in prestigious schools around the world. It is distinguished by:
- Emphasis on analytical thinking and independent work;
- Integration of knowledge between different subjects;
- Possibility of education in English;
- A diploma that provides direct access to leading universities around the world.
Preparation in Burgas is at a high level
The applying school is Professional High School of Computer Programming and Innovations - Burgas. Key requirements for the success of the project have already been met:
- Certified staff: 25 teachers have already undergone specialized training and are officially certified to teach the IB program.
- Modern infrastructure: At the end of 2025, a new Center for High Achievements was presented, which offers a modern base for practical work in the field of IT.
If the decision is positive, the Burgas high school will revolutionize municipal education in Bulgaria, offering standards equal to those in the best schools in the world.
