Four black vultures and one cinereous vulture were poisoned in the area of the land of the village of Ticha, Kotel.

This was announced by the non-governmental organization “Green Balkans”.

This is the second such case in four years.

The Law on Biological Diversity prohibits the killing of vultures in Bulgaria, and any such act is criminalized, but this does not scare those who throw poisonous baits.

"The case is serious because this time there are many black vultures that have died. This is the biggest case for this species. It is happening for the second time in this area. We found one couple two days ago. They were expected to increase the population," said Emiliyan Stoynov in "The Day Begins".

Yuli Ivanov from "Green Balkans" explained that for the first time the case is a recidivism because it is happening within the boundaries of one land. For the first time we are also facing a new type of poison, he explained.

"In this case, it is a slow-acting poison, i.e. the birds ate from the bait 3, 4 days ago. They don't die at the bait site, but kilometers away."

In Bulgaria, there has been no case so far in which charges have been brought against a suspect for such an act.
