Large-scale operation by BFSA against hazardous foods
Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) have launched a series of surprise inspections in the major cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, and Burgas. The result is the seizure of nearly 5 tons of food that do not meet legal safety requirements.
The most significant violation was discovered in a wholesale warehouse in Sofia, where over 4.6 tons of expired products were identified.
Main violations found:
- Sale of expired goods;
- Incorrect labeling of dairy products (imitation products, cheese, and yellow cheese);
- Lack of traceability documentation for origin;
- Non-compliance with storage conditions and cross-contamination of technological flows.
Measures taken by the Agency
In Sofia, 4,630 kg of food have been sent for immediate destruction, and administrative violation acts will be issued to the offenders. In Plovdiv and Burgas, mandatory instructions have been issued, and butter samples have been taken for laboratory testing.
The BFSA reminds that they are strengthening control over incoming shipments of dairy raw materials, with monitoring now being carried out at the destination sites to ensure maximum safety for consumers.
