The increase in toll taxes, which was supposed to come into effect on March 1, 2026, has been postponed indefinitely, the caretaker government decided, in order not to create tension around March 3rd.
The new toll tax tariff was supposed to come into effect on March 1st. Road transport operators have already sounded the alarm about the serious price increase for passing on toll roads for heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tons. The most noticeable price increase is for buses over 12 tons on the highway, where the average increase is from 83 to 167%.
The new regulation provided that trucks and buses in the lowest class – those with the highest carbon emissions – would pay almost twice as much compared to the current rates.
The problem, according to carriers, is that most vehicles produced before 2025 are automatically classified in the lowest class upon registration, even if they have an Euro 6 eco-category.
For now, the decision has been postponed indefinitely.
