The two-month statutory deadline for filing the indictment regarding the fatal accident on the Trakia motorway has expired. Consequently, Encho Dinev, who was detained following the tragic incident on June 24, has been released under a "recognizance" measure and is prohibited from leaving the country. Yambol District Prosecutor Doychin Doychev clarified that the release is mandatory under the law, as the penalty prescribed for the charge of causing death by negligence limits pre-trial detention to this period.
The investigation is ongoing, with conclusions from the ordered technical and medical expert reports still pending. Doychev emphasized that it is up to the experts to confirm whether the driver's claim of a blown tire—which allegedly led to a loss of control and veering into oncoming traffic—is true. It is possible that the charges could be reclassified, but this depends entirely on the analysis by the experts, who determine both the severity of the offense and the permissible duration of detention.
The severe accident occurred on June 24 at approximately 1:00 PM at the 290th kilometer of the motorway, near the Zimnitsa junction. A heavy goods vehicle crossed the median barrier and crashed into a car traveling toward Burgas. There were three fatalities at the scene:
- The driver of the car;
- Two 9-year-old children from the Slavia football academy.
