An orange code for heavy snowfall and blizzards has been declared for today in almost the entire country, reports the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).
The warnings are for significant snowfall and the formation of a snow cover of 10-20 cm, blizzards, and snowdrifts. In the eastern half of the country, a strong northeast wind with gusts of 19-24 m/second is also expected.
A yellow code for heavy snowfall has been declared for the regions of Vidin, Sofia-grad, Kyustendil, and Pernik.
As early as this morning, snowfall will begin from the southwest, which will cover the whole country by the evening and will be intense and significant in quantity in most areas. In the evening and overnight into Monday, there will also be intense snowfall in Northeastern Bulgaria. A snow cover will form, reaching 15-20 cm in Southern Bulgaria and up to 10-15 cm in Northern Bulgaria. A moderate, temporarily strong northeast wind will blow in Eastern Bulgaria, with which cold air will flow in. Temperatures will be mainly between minus 3° and 2°, in Sofia 0°-1°, informs NIMH.
