About 232,000 low-income car owners will receive a one-time compensation of 20 euros. This was announced by the Social Assistance Agency, noting that the aid is intended to compensate for high fuel prices in April.

The measure was approved by the caretaker government as targeted support for the most vulnerable drivers affected by rising fuel costs. The goal is to ease the expenses of households with lower incomes that rely on a personal car to commute to work, school, or medical facilities.

The Social Assistance Agency informs that the payment of funds begins tomorrow. First, the amounts will be transferred to individuals who have requested to receive the aid via bank account.

For about 33,000 people who traditionally receive social benefits through post offices, the funds will be paid out in cash between May 20 and May 27. Recipients will be able to collect their amounts from their respective post office branches based on their permanent address.

Individuals who own a car or are paying for one under a lease agreement are eligible for the compensation. A condition is that the vehicle must be registered in their name and used primarily for personal needs.

To receive the 20 euro aid, their average monthly gross income for 2025 must not exceed 652.41 euros. The income criterion is verified based on declared income and data from the competent institutions.

The social department reminds that such targeted compensations are a temporary measure aimed at fuel price hikes and do not replace other social programs for supporting low-income households.
