New program for the control of the stray dog population in Pomorie
Pomorie Municipality is launching its strategic "Program for controlling the stray dog population in the territory of Pomorie Municipality 2026 – 2029". The goal of the initiative is to ensure a balance between humane treatment of animals and the safety of residents and visitors to the city.
The program is aimed at reducing the number of stray animals through systematic and lawful methods, in line with European animal welfare standards.
Main pillars of the program:
- Castration and vaccination: Continuing the mass campaign for castration, rabies vaccination, and deworming.
- Registration and identification: Stricter control over pets to prevent the abandonment of animals on the streets.
- Humane treatment: Providing suitable conditions in shelters and encouraging adoption.
- Public control: Measures to limit sources of food for stray animals in the urban environment.
Pomorie Municipality calls on all owners to be responsible. Only through combined efforts – by both institutions and citizens – can a sustainable solution to the problem be achieved.
