During the latest meeting of the Municipal Council in Tsarevo, local authorities expressed solidarity with the Strumyani municipality by voting to provide financial aid to the flood-affected area. In the same context of disaster management, Mayor Marin Kirov reported that following the devastation in October 2025, full infrastructure restoration was achieved before the start of the summer tourist season. This included not only the repair of road surfaces and sidewalks but also preventive cleaning of riverbeds and gullies, with repeat cleaning required in the village of Lozenets, while reinforcement work on the Cherna River continues in preparation for the autumn season.
To ensure the future stability of the region, the municipality has already submitted documentation to the Interdepartmental Commission for several key projects. These cover the engineering and correction of the Cherna River, restoration of the road to the village of Brodilovo following a landslide, as well as the stabilization of landslide-prone areas in Ahtopol and along the coastal promenade. Parallel to these activities, new streets have been built throughout the year in the towns of Tsarevo, Lozenets, and Ahtopol.
An important part of Kirov's report addressed the resolution of long-standing financial burdens – nearly 500,000 euros were paid to local companies for repairs carried out after previous floods, funds that the state had withheld for more than two and a half years. Regarding social infrastructure and sports, the mayor noted:
- Ahtopol now has a newly built gymnasium at the kindergarten and a new heating system in the local school – a change that means students and teachers no longer rely on firewood for heating after more than 20 years.
- The construction of a multi-purpose sports hall for basketball, handball, volleyball, boxing, and karate is underway, and the new athletics track is in its final stages.
- As of October 1, the renovation of the road from the "Oasis" neighborhood to Lozenets has begun, including the construction of a bicycle and pedestrian path, as well as the reconstruction of the junction leading to the central square with new asphalt surfacing and sidewalks.
Presenting the financial framework for the current year, Mayor Marin Kirov emphasized that it is an "absolutely realistic" document, covering both the work already completed and the upcoming tasks. Kirov recalled that following the budget adoption, the active months for project implementation remained only October, November, and part of December. The municipality is relying on two main funding streams: over 5 million euros from the state's investment program and nearly 5 million euros through European funding. Kirov described this achievement as unprecedented for a municipality in a year without an adopted state budget, adding that the priorities for 2027 have already been officially determined.
