All first-graders in Pomorie municipality will get light-up keyrings so drivers can spot them more easily, especially in the dark. The gift is part of a road safety campaign called "I Shine So You Can See Me!", launched by the municipality and the local commission for combating anti-social behaviour among children and teenagers.
First-graders at Hristo Botev primary school in Pomorie were the first to take part. They went over the rules of the road through games and tasks.
Police inspector Georgi Dimitrov from the Pomorie district police department showed the children how to cross at a pedestrian crossing the right way and what situations they may meet by the road. He also explained how to stay safe on the street. The pupils learned basic rules for riding a bike, too.
The organisers say the keyrings should help the children understand how important it is to be visible, pay attention and behave safely on the road.
The campaign's motto is "Little pedestrians – big responsibility!" The organisers want children to stay careful every day, both on the way to school and on the way home.
