New traffic rules in Burgas during extreme temperatures
Burgas Municipality is introducing a strict measure to protect road infrastructure. By an official order of Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, the movement of heavy goods vehicles with a total mass of over 20 tons is prohibited when the air temperature reaches or exceeds 35°C.
Why is the ban being introduced?
The restriction is a preventive measure, as asphalt pavement softens at high temperatures. The passage of heavy trucks leads to:
- Plastic deformations of the road;
- Formation of dangerous ruts;
- Increased risk of road accidents due to the deteriorated condition of the pavement.
The ban is in effect until September 1st and covers the time range from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM on days with extreme temperatures.
How will drivers be informed?
Burgas Municipality commits to publishing up-to-date information on its website, as well as through other communication channels, no later than 11:00 AM each day for which a ban is planned.
Expect an additional list of exceptions to which the ban will not apply.
