Burgas council is backing a national campaign against stroke for World Stroke Day on 29 October, the council said. The aim is to help people spot the signs of a stroke and call 112 at once if they suspect one.
On Monday, the Stroke and Aphasia Association had already called on people to learn the early signs of a stroke.
What happened before: Stroke association urges people to call 112 straight away if they notice signs of a stroke
The association and the Bulgarian Stroke Society are running the campaign. Its motto is "Every minute counts!" The organisers want more people to know about the illness and to act at the first symptoms.
A stroke threatens life and needs emergency help. There are three signs: the face suddenly droops or twists, one arm suddenly weakens, or speech suddenly becomes slurred or hard to understand.
Just one of these signs is enough to call for emergency medical help. People should not wait to see if the symptoms pass on their own.
The campaign says spotting the signs in time and getting a doctor fast can decide a patient's life and recovery. The sooner doctors step in, the less damage there is, and the better the chance that a person keeps their speech, movement and independence.
The council urges residents to learn about the signs and tell their relatives about them.
