Burgas Municipality is organizing drone operation training as part of the project “Increasing the resilience of critical infrastructure in the Mediterranean through the implementation of nature-based engineering solutions” (Med-IREN). The training was conducted jointly with the Regional Directorate “Fire Safety and Population Protection” - Burgas.

The training was led by Prof. Georgi Hristov and a team from the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev“ at the UNITE center of the Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov“. The guest lecturers provided expert preparation in the theoretical and practical part of the course.

Within the framework of the project, two industrial unmanned aerial systems were acquired, including drones with high-tech sensors and software. Burgas Municipality provided one of the systems to the fire department - DJI Matrice 30, which can perform autonomous missions. The drone is equipped with a thermal camera, zoom and wide-angle camera for effective detection of temperature anomalies and mapping.

The training included a theoretical module on the regulatory framework and safety, as well as practice in piloting and data analysis. Emphasis was placed on the use of drones in a real operational environment - locating fire sources and assisting actions in crisis situations.
