Starting from 08.07.2025, a large-scale health initiative will be launched, related to expanding access to medications for pediatric treatment. The health institution is introducing a mechanism for free payment of two antibacterial drugs intended for children up to seven years of age.
The medications are aimed at treating 26 most common infectious diseases, including upper and lower respiratory tract inflammations. The specifically covered therapeutic areas include sinusitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia, as well as skin and soft tissue system infections.
An important condition is that the medications will be dispensed only by prescription and in compliance with standard procedures for acute medical conditions. The NHIF management emphasizes the need for software updates for doctors and pharmacies.
The National System Integrator "Information Services AD" guarantees the full technical readiness of the National Health Information System and the internal NHIF systems as of the announced date.
Parallel to the current initiative, the institution is negotiating the inclusion of a third antibiotic. Additionally, an application has been submitted to the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement for potential integration of an antiviral drug, which is currently under consideration.
