New four sections of the road between Lovech and Gabrovo will be included in the average speed measurement system, announced the "Road Infrastructure" Agency. This expands the scope of the system, with the total number of controlled sections reaching 42.
The full list of included sections is published on the API website, at https://bgtoll.bg/vaprosi-i-otgovori. Access to this information is important for all road users, as it provides clarity on the areas where speed control is applied.
On the "Trakia" motorway, the sections Vakarel - Ihtiman and Tsalapitsa - Radinovo are included in the system, with control being carried out in both directions of travel. On the "Hemus" motorway, the sections subject to average speed control are between Devnya and Ignatievo, as well as between Belokopitovo and Kaspichan, again in both directions. On the "Struma" motorway, the control covers the sections from Sandanski to Damyantsa and from Balgarchevo to Pokrovnik, also bidirectional. The "Maritsa" motorway will monitor the average speed in the areas Lyubimets - Momkovo; Momkovo - Svilengrad and Harmanli - Lyubimets, and here in both directions.
On road I-4, between Balgarski izvor and Sopot; Ryahovtsi - Bogatovo and Sopot - Golets, average speed control will be carried out, with measurements being taken in both directions of the road, according to API information.
The system functions by placing cameras at the beginning and end of each section. These cameras record the time it takes for the vehicle to travel the specified distance. Subsequently, the average speed of the car is calculated. If it exceeds the maximum permissible speed, as defined by the Road Traffic Act, a sanction procedure is initiated. The data is provided by the National Toll Management to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is responsible for imposing fines.
