The National Investigation Service has developed a new methodology for investigating road traffic accidents, which reflects the latest practice of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) and the changes in the Criminal Code (CC).

According to investigator Marian Marinov, the aim is to assist investigators, investigating police officers and prosecutors, as the fairness of the sentence depends on the quality of the inspection of the scene of the accident.

There are proposals to improve the investigations, including the use of a “white room” – a facility for examining vehicles involved in accidents. It is also planned to provide additional equipment with modern means, provided by donation or otherwise.

Diana Rusinova from the “European Center for Transport Policies” explained that the “white room” will allow to determine whether a technical malfunction caused the accident.

Rusinova noted the positive development related to the use of modern technologies and international experience, which can influence the improvement of road infrastructure after establishing the causes of road accidents.

Representatives of “Angels of the Road” and parents of those killed in accidents expressed a positive view on the new methodology.
