Illegal construction in Baba Alino: Who bears the responsibility?
Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski issued a sharp call to the Varna Municipality to fulfill its legal obligations and remove the illegal buildings in the Baba Alino area. According to the minister, only after the terrain is cleared can the process of restoring the destroyed nature begin.
"When we stop following the laws, that is when the state disappears," declared Minister Abrovski during the BATA AGRO 2026 exhibition.
The scale of the damage
The minister emphasized that although the losses of timber are not colossal, the damage to the ecosystem is enormous. A beautiful deciduous forest was completely destroyed to clear space for the unregulated structures.
Institutional actions
- Reports: The first official data regarding the violation reached the ministry in October 2023.
- Reaction: The Regional Forestry Directorate responded immediately, but a significant delay in construction control has been observed on the part of the Varna Municipality.
- Prosecution: The District Prosecutor's Office is already conducting pre-trial proceedings for the inaction of officials in the period from July 2023 to May 2026.
Minister Abrovski is categorical: the government will continue to insist on strict compliance with the legislation in order to put an end to such environmental crimes.
