The water supply crisis in Dobrich has reached the parliament
Tensions surrounding the lack of water in the Dobrich region have escalated to an institutional level. On the initiative of Member of Parliament Svilen Trifonov, a meeting was held aimed at finding a lasting solution for the critical state of the water transmission network.
"From one breakdown to the next, it is clear that the current situation will continue to deteriorate," stated MP Svilen Trifonov.
Outdated infrastructure and huge losses
The Executive Director of "ViK Dobrich" (Water and Sanitation Dobrich), Hari Pavlov, revealed alarming data:
- The network is depreciated: It was built between the 1950s and 1980s.
- Water losses: They vary between 70 and 80 percent, mainly in populated areas.
- Lack of personnel: The company employs only 371 people, who cannot keep up with the huge number of breakdowns.
Financial state on the edge
Data from the middle of the year show a grim picture:
- Loss of 958,000 euros.
- Liabilities to the "Bulgarian Water and Sanitation Holding" amounting to 6.5 million euros.
- Current debts to suppliers – 3.6 million euros.
According to the company's management, current efforts are focused solely on patching up breakdowns, and "ViK Dobrich" cannot cope with the problem on its own without state intervention and the modernization of equipment.
