Two men have been charged with the possession and distribution of a particularly large amount of narcotics following a specialized police operation in the Burgas region. The administrative head of the District Prosecutor's Office in the seaside city, Georgi Chinev, stated at a briefing that the prosecution will insist on permanent detention for the detainees. The prescribed penalty for this crime is imprisonment for a term of 5 to 15 years, accompanied by a fine.
The investigation began at the end of July after the Ministry of Interior received information about several individuals planning to distribute large quantities of drugs in resorts along the Southern Black Sea coast. The head of the Organized Crime Combatting unit in Burgas, Pavel Kolev, clarified that two men, aged 42 and 53, had been identified. They had organized a scheme in which a portion of the drugs was intended to be smuggled out of the country by sea using a purchased underwater device resembling a drone.
During the operation conducted in the area of Tsarevo, one of the participants was arrested. Inside his vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered nearly 100 packages of cannabis, each weighing approximately one kilogram. An inspection of an establishment in Sunny Beach followed, where narcotic substances were also found.
"With this underwater drone, dives of up to 40 meters can be performed, depending on the device. Such devices are used for diving," explained Pavel Kolev. Georgi Chinev added that some of the drugs were intended for the Turkish market. A technical expert assessment is pending in the case to establish details regarding the equipment used for underwater transport.
