The Executive Director of the NRA, Hristo Markov, announced in Blagoevgrad that nearly 700 checks have been carried out for unjustified price increases, with violations found in 10% of the cases. 69 penalty decrees have been issued, and documents are being collected for another 300 checks.
NRA employees are conducting joint checks with teams from the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC), monitoring for unjustified price increases and the correct display of prices in leva and euros. Markov emphasized that traders are more likely to comply with the regulations.
From January 2025, the number of checks will be drastically increased to 400 per day, using a new methodology for comparing prices. The initial penalty for a violation is from 5,000 to 100,000 leva, and for a repeated violation – from 20,000 to 200,000 leva.
Acting Chairman of the CPC, Alexander Kolyachev, noted the disciplined behavior of traders regarding the dual labeling of goods. The checks will cover all populated areas and will include both commercial establishments for food products and establishments in the service sector.
The goal is prevention, strengthening control, and protecting consumers. The increased checks will continue until August 8, 2026. Citizens are urged to report violations.
