Since the beginning of the campaign to check compliance with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) has drawn up 286 acts establishing administrative violations and has issued 67 penal decrees totaling over 360,000 leva. This was announced by Vladislav Iliev, head of the "Operational Activities" department in the General Directorate "Fiscal Control" of the NRA, to journalists.

The information was announced during a joint check by the NRA and the Commission for Consumer Protection (CPC) in a pharmacy in the capital's "Lyulin" district, carried out following a report of a price increase for colic drops.

Iliev clarified that the issuance of more penal decrees and the drafting of additional acts are forthcoming, as the data is dynamic. According to him, over 4,500 inspections have been carried out so far, mainly in grocery stores, pharmacies, fitness centers, paid parking lots, and other commercial establishments. Since the beginning of the year, the NRA has also received over 2,000 reports from citizens.

Regarding the specific inspection, Iliev explained that the report was for an increase in the price of a specific type of colic drops - from 26 leva in December to 34.79 leva at the present moment. During the inspection, the price at different periods will be established, and if an increase is found, explanations, documents, and economic justification will be requested from the merchant.

After the presentation of the documents, the NRA will conduct an analysis to assess whether the potential increase is due to objective economic factors and whether it is justified. If an unjustified increase is established, an act will be drawn up and a penal decree issued.

Iliev pointed out that according to the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria, the merchant has five working days after the inspection to submit the necessary documents. The penalties for a first violation are from 5,000 to 100,000 leva, and for a repeated violation - from 10,000 to 200,000 leva.
