147 years in the service of Bulgaria
The National Guard Unit marks 147 years since its establishment today. The iconic structure, which is a symbol of statehood, honored its holiday with a solemn ceremony in the heart of the capital.
Solemn changing of the guard
The culmination of the celebrations began exactly at 12:00 PM in front of the Presidency building. Hundreds of citizens gathered to watch the solemn changing of the honorary guard – an act that demonstrates discipline, professionalism, and respect for Bulgarian traditions.

Historical roots
The history of the guard began in 1879 as a personal convoy of Prince Alexander I Battenberg. On July 12 of the same year, the first official escort of the prince took place on the streets of Sofia, marking the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day.
