The Ministry of Interior announced that the interactive map for road traffic accidents has been fully restored and is once again updating in real time. This puts an end to the pause in data updates, which road safety experts had signaled in recent days.

The news comes just days after the creator of the "Black Track" platform, Martin Atanasov, alerted that the map had not been updated since May 5. This raised questions as to whether the public would continue to have access to up-to-date information on accidents and the riskiest road sections.

The Ministry of Interior explains that the temporary suspension was necessitated by the process of upgrading the "Traffic Police" software systems. "The upgrade of the Traffic Police software systems was carried out in connection with the changes to the Road Traffic Act, which entered into force on May 7, 2026," the department noted.

According to the ministry, the process is now complete. "At this moment, the exchange of information between AIS GIS and AIS 'Traffic Police' has been fully restored. The functionalities of the Interactive Map for road traffic accidents have also been restored in full," the Ministry of Interior further clarified.

The Ministry of Interior's online map was introduced in 2025, shortly after the start of the civil initiative "Black Track," which visualized public data on road accidents. The goal of these tools is to highlight locations with systemic road safety problems and to identify the most dangerous sections across the national and municipal road network.

Restoring the operation of the interactive map means that citizens, institutions, and experts can once again use up-to-date statistics and visualizations for accidents – a key tool for planning safety measures, infrastructure improvements, and traffic control.
