The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Bulgaria organized an important meeting between Minister Georg Georgiev and a delegation from the Jordanian Association of Bulgarian University Graduates. The meeting, which took place today at the MFA building, focused on discussing strategies for expanding existing projects between the two countries, with particular emphasis on scientific research in agriculture and light industry.
The Association's delegation was represented by Dr. Haidar Ibrahim Ali, Chairman of the Board, Eng. Nabil Al-Bakri, Board Coordinator, and Dr. Ali Al-Fayez, responsible for cultural and educational initiatives. Their presence underscores the significance of the meeting and the importance of educational ties between Bulgaria and Jordan.
During the discussions, a number of key topics were addressed, including the Association's activities, relations with the Bulgarian Embassy in Amman, and the organization of events that present Bulgaria to Jordanian society. Particular attention was paid to opportunities for expanding contacts between alumni of Bulgarian universities and their colleagues from other countries in the region.
Minister Georgiev emphasized the important role of Bulgarian alumni, describing them as a "bridge for Bulgaria both to Jordan and to the countries of the Middle East". This statement underlines the strategic importance of educational ties for Bulgarian diplomacy in the region.
An interesting aspect of the Association's activities is the support it provides to the Bulgarian Sunday school "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Amman. With about 40 students, this school plays an important role in maintaining Bulgarian culture and language among the diaspora in Jordan.
The current situation in the Middle East was also discussed during the meeting. Minister Georgiev assured the Jordanian representatives that Bulgaria, despite objective difficulties, is actively working towards establishing lasting and just peace in the region, using its authority among the countries involved in the conflict.
The Jordanian Association of Bulgarian University Graduates has a long history, dating back to May 2000. It is impressive that from the 1960s to the present day, about 3,500 Jordanian citizens have received their higher education in Bulgaria in various academic specialties. This demonstrates the depth and sustainability of educational ties between the two countries.
In the context of this meeting, it is important to note that at the beginning of the year, Minister Georgiev held a telephone conversation with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Ayman al-Safadi. During this conversation, the readiness of both countries to maintain active political dialogue at all levels was discussed, further emphasizing the importance of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Jordan.
This meeting and the ongoing dialogue between Bulgaria and Jordan demonstrate the desire of both countries to deepen cooperation in various areas, with education playing a key role in this process. The development of these relations could have a significant impact on cultural, economic, and political exchange between the two countries in the future.
