Measles in Bulgaria: 14 New Cases, 94 Total as of April 7th

As of April 7th, 94 cases of measles have been registered in Bulgaria, including 14 new ones. Immunization is mandatory. The disease is highly contagious and is transmitted through airborne droplets.

As of April 7th, 94 cases of measles have been registered in Bulgaria, according to the Ministry of Health. 14 of these cases are newly registered. Most of the new cases are in Vratsa (10), followed by Sofia-grad (2), Pleven and Lovech (1 each). The infected are aged between 2 and 53 years.

Immunization against measles is mandatory in Bulgaria and is performed at 13 months of age and at 12 years of age.

Measles is an acute infectious disease with general intoxication, inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, and a skin rash. The virus is transmitted through airborne droplets (speech, exhalation, sneezing, coughing, crying). Infection occurs through direct contact (1-2 meters) in enclosed spaces. The incubation period is about 12-14 days.
