Today marked the beginning of the long-awaited construction and installation of pedestrian overpasses at the busy roundabout near the Mirage hotel. This phase of the project aims not only to improve the infrastructure but also to guarantee the safety of thousands of pedestrians who cross the busy intersection daily. The work on installing the overpasses will require significant changes to traffic management, which will affect one of the most key areas in the city.
Specialized construction equipment and work teams are already on site, and their activities are attracting the attention of dozens of passersby and drivers. Since the morning, the sound of heavy machinery and installation activities has been heard in the area, signaling the start of a large-scale infrastructure project. To ensure a smooth and safe construction process, a temporary traffic arrangement will be introduced, which will be in effect for a period of ten days – from December 12 to 22.
Changes in traffic on boulevards
The traffic changes will affect two key boulevards. Traffic will be temporarily rerouted along "Stefan Stambolov" Blvd. in the section from "Trakia" St. to the roundabout at the Mirage hotel. At the same time, there will be restrictions on "Nikola Petkov" Blvd. as well. Local authorities are urging residents and visitors to the city to be patient and to strictly follow the instructions on road signs and from traffic controllers to avoid traffic jams and potential incidents.
The new pedestrian facilities are expected to significantly ease traffic in the area and reduce the risk of road accidents by separating pedestrian flow from vehicular traffic. Completing the project on time will be crucial for normalizing traffic in this critical transportation hub. Until then, citizens will have to comply with the temporary restrictions, which, although inconvenient, are necessary for the realization of an important infrastructure project for the city.
