Modernization of infrastructure in Burgas
Burgas Municipality has launched a large-scale project to improve transport connectivity. Construction has begun on a new roundabout on "Zahari Stoyanov" Blvd., which will replace the existing intersection towards the "Gorno Ezerovo" neighborhood.
This is a key step towards improving the safety and capacity of one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city.
Why is the new roundabout necessary?
- High traffic: Over 23,000 vehicles pass through the boulevard daily.
- Relieving "Meden Rudnik": The new facilities, along with the future Southern Bypass, will reduce traffic jams towards the largest residential complex.
- Public transport: 11 lines pass through this section, including the bus rapid transit line, which necessitates traffic optimization.
Technical parameters of the project
The new facility will have three traffic lanes, each 4 meters wide, designed for heavy-duty traffic. The project also includes the construction of a modern storm sewer system.
Traffic management
Construction activities will be carried out in stages to minimize discomfort for drivers. Temporary arrangements are planned, with some of the loudest and most disruptive activities to be performed outside of peak hours. Safe connections for cyclists have also been provided.
Connection to the Southern Bypass
In parallel, construction continues on the Southern Bypass of Burgas. The goal is to divert heavy-duty and transit traffic outside the city, directly connecting the "Meden Rudnik" area with the Burgas – Sozopol road near the Poda locality.
