Burgas came alive during Mobility Week, September 14-22, under the motto "Combine and Move".
The sunny weather favored the "Walk with a Cause" initiative – a walking tour, part of the event"s rich program. The city streets buzzed with activity as users from the Social Center – Burgas and the "Grijovnik" Social Garden for seniors with dementia participated in a specially organized walk to promote sustainable urban development.
The atmosphere was filled with positive energy and shared emotions. Rossitsa Topalova, chief curator at the Ethnographic Exposition of the Regional History Museum – Burgas, gave a brilliant performance as a tour guide, carefully and with a smile leading the group through the city"s landmarks. All participants received branded "I love Burgas" t-shirts, adding to the initiative"s mood and emphasizing the sense of community.
The tour began with one of Burgas"s iconic symbols – the Clock, and then continued to another landmark – the Compass. The walking tour also included a short talk dedicated to the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, enriching the participants" knowledge of the city"s cultural heritage.
The walk ended with a folklore program in the cozy courtyard of the Ethnographic Museum. The "Lilac" Pensioners_ Club Association, with the support of Yana Valcheva, gave performances, bringing additional warmth and authenticity to the event. The Regional Information Center – Burgas, the Regional History Museum – Burgas, and the Municipal Enterprise "Tourism" were co-organizers of the initiative.
On-site, all attendees had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the obektidostapnasreda.smartburgas.eu platform, developed by Innovative Systems – Burgas. The platform, with its intuitive interface and clean design, provides easy access to information about the accessibility of various objects in the city for people with disabilities, their location, contacts, and audio recordings. Its bilingual nature (Bulgarian and English) makes it accessible to a wider range of users. It is also available on a digital device in the courtyard of the Ethnographic Museum and a cafe.
The European Mobility Week 2025 in Burgas, supported by the Burgas Municipality, generated excitement and is aimed at promoting ecological transport, reducing dependence on cars, and improving the quality of life. The program for all events in Europe can be viewed at https://mobilityweek.eu/home/. The initiatives are part of the project "Implementation of municipal sustainable urban mobility plans for the transition to a climate-neutral and climate-resilient society" (LIFE22-IPC-BG-LIFE-SIP CLIMA-SUMP), funded by the EU"s LIFE Programme. The events are also closely linked to Burgas"s preparations for "European Capital of Culture 2032".
