The Transformation: From Nissan Leaf to Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback
The third generation of the Nissan Leaf takes a radical step forward, evolving from a traditional hatchback into a modern crossover with a coupe-like silhouette. Mitsubishi is leveraging its partnership within the Renault-Nissan Alliance to introduce its own version of the model under the name Eclipse Sportback.
North America is the primary, and likely only, market intended for Mitsubishi's new electric SUV.
Design and Visual Differences
Despite the shared platform, the Eclipse Sportback stands out with its individual character:
- Specific bumpers and unique boomerang-shaped headlights.
- Modified taillights that provide a more aggressive look.
- An interior expected to follow the Leaf concept with a minimalist two-spoke steering wheel.
Technical Specifications and Expectations
Although full details remain a secret, the model is expected to benefit from Nissan's proven electric architecture. In the US, the Nissan Leaf features 218 hp and a 75 kWh battery, providing an impressive range of over 600 km. It remains to be seen whether Mitsubishi will also offer more affordable versions with a 52 kWh battery.
The market debut of the Eclipse Sportback in North America is scheduled for late summer or early autumn.
