The Cross – a symbol of immortality in the April Epic
"Let us remember and know that it was not anyone else, but the Orthodox faith that defeated slavery." With these words, Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv addressed the citizens and officials during the solemn roll call and military tattoo in Panagyurishte.
This cross is the living witness of the April Epic. Before it, death was transformed into immortality.
The Metropolitan emphasized the key role of the altar cross from the church in the village of Poibrene. It was before this very cross that Rayna Knyaginya's flag was consecrated and Georgi Benkovski's "Flying Detachment" was blessed. According to the Bishop, this cross not only witnessed the betrayal and the sacrifices, but was also the "crucifixion" from which free Bulgaria was resurrected.
