The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) is undertaking large-scale financial inspections among national sports federations, revealing significant irregularities in the spending of public funds. The control body announced the results of a comprehensive audit process covering the period from the beginning to the middle of 2025.

The official statement reveals that within the specified time range, a total of 30 inspections were carried out - 28 planned and 2 extraordinary. The results show serious financial deviations in several key sports associations.

The most significant financial liabilities were found in the following federations: Bulgarian Wrestling Federation with a recovery of 314,570.05 leva, Bulgarian Tennis Federation with 380,732.66 leva, Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation with 355,012.39 leva, and Bulgarian National Karate Federation with 65,264.93 leva.

The institution emphasizes that the inspections are carried out in accordance with the Physical Education and Sports Act, with the main goal of ensuring full transparency in the spending of state funds. The MYS specifies that agreements for deferred payment have been concluded for all identified liabilities.

An interesting detail is that out of the 30 organizations checked, unspent funds have been identified in 11 federations, which have already been returned. No financial violations were found in 16 federations.

Specific cases include the Bulgarian Fishing Sports Federation, which owes 6,700 leva, and the Bulgarian Shooting Federation with 57,221.16 leva to be recovered. Both organizations have requested deferred payments.

The Ministry is committed to regularly informing the public about the results of financial checks, with the aim of increasing transparency in the management of sports organizations.

These inspections demonstrate the consistent policy of the state body to control the spending of public funds in the sports sector and to ensure their lawful and effective utilization.
