Massive inspections by the General Labour Inspectorate (GLI) along the Black Sea coast
Starting this week, teams from the General Labour Inspectorate (GLI) in seaside resorts have been reinforced with seconded inspectors. The goal is enhanced control over labor legislation during the active summer season.
The restaurant, hotel, and retail industries have been identified as the highest-risk sectors.
Violation statistics
Data for the first six months of 2026 is alarming:
- 7,836 inspections conducted in high-risk sectors.
- Nearly 29,000 violations identified.
- 468 people were working without an employment contract in the tourism and retail sectors alone.
- Sanctions totaling 976,000 euros were imposed.
How to protect your labor rights?
The GLI reminds you that a written employment contract is the only guarantee of your rights. Before starting work, make sure to request:
- A copy of the employment contract with an original signature.
- A copy of the notification to the National Revenue Agency (NRA) regarding the registered employment contract.
- A job description.
It is important that the agreed salary is stated in the contract, as your future maternity benefits, unemployment benefits, and pension amount depend on it.
