Minister Daniel Mitov held a working meeting with the newly elected Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, Velislava Delcheva. The meeting, which took place in the loaded environment of important upcoming decisions, was dedicated to key issues related to the work of the two institutions.
At the center of the discussions were current topics that directly affect the effectiveness of public administration and the rights of citizens. During the meeting, a willingness for open and constructive dialogue was expressed. This is of essential importance, as the implementation of the Ombudsman's recommendations, after conducted inspections, has been proven to lead to a noticeable improvement in the work of various institutions.
At the same time, the participants in the meeting emphasized the need to find a balance between two key areas. On the one hand, respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, and on the other – taking all necessary measures to guarantee security and public order. The difficult balance between these two aspects is of extreme importance for the stability of society.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs briefly presented the main discussions held in the European Union. These discussions are aimed at the management of migration processes and the creation of a common European system for the return of illegal migrants. The focus on these topics highlights the increasing importance of coordinated efforts at the European level to address the challenges of migration.
In this context, the key role of the Ombudsman in the future independent monitoring mechanism was also discussed. This mechanism is planned to be created in accordance with the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. It was emphasized that the new mechanism will build on the already existing national-level monitoring of the work of the Ministry of Interior (MIA), especially in the area of border control and the return of illegally residing foreigners. Undoubtedly, the creation of this mechanism is of essential importance for guaranteeing transparency and accountability in the management of migration flows.
