Priorities for Higher Education
The Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Georgi Valchev, held a key meeting with university rectors, where he reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing reforms in the sector. Despite the complex budgetary framework, education remains a strategic priority.
"The higher education system is one of the most reformed, and this is recognized by both internal and external instruments," emphasized Prof. Valchev.
Focus on Quality and Future Teachers
- Teacher Training: The Minister urged universities not to compromise on the level of training for future teachers.
- International Cooperation: Simplified procedures for attracting foreign students are being discussed.
- Infrastructure: Programs for the renovation of student dormitories are continuing.
Tuition Fees for 2026/2027
The Council of Ministers has already approved the tuition fees for the 2026/2027 academic year, which affect over 147,000 students:
- Students: Average annual fee of 545 EUR.
- PhD students at universities: Average annual fee of 1130 EUR.
- PhD students at scientific organizations: Average annual fee of 435 EUR.
The Ministry does not plan a mandatory reduction of bachelor's programs to 3 years, but gives universities the freedom to make this decision if they deem it appropriate.
