The Ministry of Health (MH) has launched a large-scale initiative to renew the management bodies in key health institutions across the country. According to an official announcement from the ministry's press service, competitions have been announced for the selection of new members of the management bodies of numerous commercial companies within the healthcare system.
This measure has been taken due to several factors, including expiring mandates of current managers, submitted requests for resignation, withdrawal of previous nominations, as well as the need to fill boards of directors in accordance with current legal requirements.
Among the most significant healthcare facilities for which competitive procedures are being announced are:
- Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (MHAT) "St. Anna" in Sofia
- University Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMHAT) in Plovdiv
- MHAT "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" in Lovech
- "Specialized Hospital for Rehabilitation - Burgas Mineral Baths"
- The National Cardiology Hospital
- The commercial company "BUL BIO - NCIPD"
Additionally, a liquidator is being sought for the company "VIMEDIT" Ltd. in Vidin.
To ensure continuity in the management of the affected companies, in some cases temporary managers have been appointed until the completion of the competitive procedures. At the same time, for certain medical facilities, a procedure for selecting independent members by the Agency for Public Enterprises and Control is to be initiated, in accordance with the Public Enterprises Act.
The ministry emphasizes that the main goal of these actions is to ensure legality and continuity in management, as well as to maintain effective management capacity in the medical facilities.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reform management in the health sector. In July this year, the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Silvi Kirilov, announced to the parliamentary health committee that competitions for state representatives or directors need to be held in 11 hospitals. He specified that out of a total of 54 joint-stock companies under the MH umbrella, competitions have already been held in 36 last year.
Minister Kirilov expressed confidence that by March 2026, the competitions in the remaining 11 hospitals will be successfully conducted on time. This shows the ministry's long-term commitment to improving management and efficiency in the health sector.
These changes are expected to bring fresh ideas and approaches to the management of healthcare facilities, which in turn could lead to an improvement in the quality of health services for citizens. Healthcare experts welcome this initiative but emphasize the need for transparency in the process of selecting and appointing new managers.
