The General Directorate "Combating Organized Crime" (GDCOC) celebrates today 35 years since its establishment, the service informs on its official Facebook page.
Established on February 13, 1991, as the Central Service for Combating Organized Crime, Drug Trafficking and Arms Trafficking (CSCOC), the main directorate of the Ministry of Interior today continues to be a guarantor of society's security and a reliable international partner, it is stated in the publication. This is the first specialized structure in the country after the changes in 1989, entirely focused on combating serious and cross-border organized crime. It is also the only service with the structure and authority to conduct special "undercover" operations, it is noted in the post. At that time, services with similar competences and functions existed in the United Kingdom and the United States, the service adds.
The director of the GDCOC, Chief Commissioner Boyan Raev, and the management of the directorate congratulate all employees for the holiday and wish them health and prosperity. They thank them for their professionalism and dedication to the profession.
"You are an example of how to serve the law and society and how to build a team and an institution – by passing on experience, with character, discipline and morals. We know that society can be at peace with people like you!", the congratulation says.
Outgoing Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov commented a year ago that two are the key priorities of the GDCOC. One is related to increasing the administrative and technical capacity of the GDCOC in order to guarantee cybersecurity at the national level, and the other - the inclusion of Bulgaria in the program for visa-free travel to the United States, in order to remove American visas for all Bulgarian citizens.
