In a large-scale operation conducted in Sofia and other parts of the country, a team of investigators from the National Investigation Service (NIS) is carrying out a series of searches and seizures in homes and offices. The operation is in response to a request for legal assistance from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, in connection with an investigation into serious corruption crimes related to arms trading at inflated prices.

According to information provided by the prosecutor's office, the large-scale operation involves the participation of numerous NIS investigators, supported by officers from the General Directorate "Combating Organized Crime" (GDCOC) of the Ministry of Interior, as well as specialized teams from the General Directorate "Gendarmerie, Special Operations and Counter-Terrorism" (GDGSOCT).

This coordinated operation highlights the close cooperation between Bulgarian and Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in the fight against cross-border corruption. The case draws attention to potential abuses in international arms trade - a sector traditionally vulnerable to corrupt practices due to high sums involved and its strategic importance.

The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office oversees all actions carried out within the framework of the request for legal assistance, ensuring that procedures are strictly followed in accordance with Bulgarian legislation and international agreements on legal cooperation.

Anti-corruption experts comment that such international investigations are key to uncovering complex corruption schemes that often cross national borders. They emphasize the importance of prompt and effective legal assistance between countries for successful counteraction to such crimes.

More details about the results of the searches and possible implications for the investigation in Ukraine are expected to be announced in the coming days. Meanwhile, Bulgarian authorities confirm their determination to fully cooperate with international efforts to combat corruption and illegal arms trade.
