Results of the specialized police operation
Since May 13, a large-scale operation for traffic control and countering crime has been underway under the leadership of the Ministry of Interior. A total of 353,394 vehicles and 418,631 people have been checked. Over 118,000 traffic tickets and 12,173 violation reports have been issued.
"The goal is to increase road safety and curb street crime through active control," the ministry emphasized.
Fight against drugs and "laughing gas"
- 1.43 kg of fentanyl, 3.43 kg of amphetamine, and significant quantities of marijuana and precursors have been seized.
- During operations against the distribution of "laughing gas," 11,554 sites were checked, over 129,497 ml of the substance were found, and 1,321 pre-trial proceedings were initiated.
Street crime and economic control
The operation has also achieved success in locating people and vehicles: 88 vehicles and 1,310 wanted persons have been found. Regarding economic crime, 16,675 sites were checked, including scrapyards, pawn shops, and casinos, resulting in the detention of 1,553 people.
Future road safety measures
Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev announced plans to create "trauma maps" and faster data exchange from cameras for the automatic delivery of traffic tickets, with the aim of drastically reducing road accidents.
