Large-scale Water Project in Sofia with European Funding

The managing body of the "Environment" Program has launched a key procedure for improving water infrastructure in the Sofia Municipality through direct provision of grant funding worth up to 100 million leva.

The Ministry of Environment officially announced procedure No. BG16FFPR002-1.005 "Construction of Water Supply and Sewerage Infrastructure in Sofia Municipality - Stage II" under the priority axis "Water" for the period 2021-2027. The specific beneficiary is Sofia Municipality, which will implement large-scale infrastructure improvements.

The main strategic goal of the project is to achieve full compliance with European environmental standards set in Directive 91/271/EEC for settlements with over 10,000 inhabitants. The planned interventions cover several key areas of Sofia.

The geographical scope includes multiple urban districts: "Pancharevo" with the settlement of German, "Iskar" with the neighborhoods "Dimitar Milenkov" and "Abdovitsa", "Nadezhda" with "Iliyantsi" and "Orlandovtsi", "Vrabnitsa" - "Modern Suburb", "Vitosha" - "Simeonovo", "Ovcha Kupel", as well as the agglomerations of Novi Iskar and Bankya.

The financial framework of the project provides a maximum budget of 100,000,000 leva, which will be distributed for modernization of water supply and sewerage infrastructure. The full documentation is publicly accessible in the ISUN information system for transparency and traceability.
