A Large-Scale Water Project Transforms Sofia's Infrastructure

The managing body of the Environment Program launched a key procedure for modernization of the water supply and sewerage system in the capital region through direct financing worth up to 100 million leva.

The Ministry of Environment and Water has officially announced a large-scale investment procedure with direct financial support No. BG16FFPR002-1.005, focused on improving water infrastructure in the Sofia Municipality for the period 2021-2027.

Sofia Municipality has been designated as the sole beneficiary of this strategic project, whose main goal is to achieve full compliance with European environmental standards, regulated in Directive 91/271/EEC for settlements with over 10,000 inhabitants.

The planned interventions cover three key agglomeration areas: Sofia City with priority zones in the districts of "Pancharevo", "Iskar", "Nadezhda", "Vrabnitsa" and "Vitosha"; Novi Iskar and Bankya District. The territorial scope includes specific neighborhoods such as "German", "Dimitar Milenkov", "Abdovitsa", "Iliiantsi", "Orlandovtsi", "Modern Suburb", "Simeonovo" and others.

The financial resource for project implementation amounts to a maximum sum of 100,000,000 leva, which will be distributed for comprehensive renovation and modernization of water management infrastructure in the specified Sofia districts.
