The large-scale fire in the Sungurlare municipality, which destroyed significant forest areas and vineyard massifs, is in the process of being brought under control, official sources reported. Mayor Dimitar Gavazov confirmed that fire-fighting units continue to work on localizing the hotspots.
A state of emergency has been declared by official order in several settlements, including the town of Sungurlare, the villages of Beronovo, Skala, Slavyantsi, and Balabanchevo. The situation remains critical, with efforts focused on two main fronts in the forest areas.
According to information from the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), the fire started on Friday and quickly spread across extensive territories. Available equipment includes specialized fire-fighting means and air support – one helicopter and two planes.
The key priority of the teams is complete extinguishing and prevention of further fire spread. At the moment, there is no direct threat to settlements, which is considered a positive sign by the rescue operation coordinators.
Gavazov emphasized that the work continues for the fourth consecutive day, with teams working intensively, including at night, with the clear goal of fully bringing the critical situation under control.
