Machine printouts from 14 polling stations in four regions show fewer votes in the first round than the number of voter signatures and control receipts.
The gaps are in Haskovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo and Vidin regions. The missing votes do not appear in the machine printout.
In Haskovo region, machines were used in 350 polling stations, and 7 of them show a gap. Five stations are missing one vote each, and two are missing two votes each. Ina Veskova, head of the regional election commission in Haskovo, said the gap came to light when the election papers were handed in, because the voters' signatures did not match the machine data. She said it will not affect the results in any way.
In Veliko Tarnovo, three polling stations in the city are affected. Each of the three machines failed to record one vote, three in all. The commission found the gap in the night after election day.
The regional election commission in Veliko Tarnovo voted to accept the results from the stations where the checks flagged a mismatch. It accepted the machine count, even though the voter lists have one more signature at each of the three. Commission head Hristo Denev said just three of more than 44,000 votes in this election were not recorded.
Denev said the machine data is still being analysed and the machines are already being readied for the second round. He expects Ciela Norma to explain what happened and respond.
A decision is expected before the runoff on Sunday. Ciela Norma has been asked for comment but has not yet replied.
