The main reason for the increasingly grim statistics along the Bulgarian coast is fishing nets—both legal ones and those used by poachers. According to data cited by "Focus," environmental inspectors found during their checks that once dolphins are trapped in this gear, they are unable to reach the surface for air and drown within just a few minutes.

The trend of sea mammals washing ashore along the Southern Black Sea coast became noticeable as early as the onset of spring. Another such incident was recorded near Sozopol, after a dolphin carcass washed up on the "Kavatsi" beach strip.

The report regarding the incident is yet to be submitted to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW). The agency has been tasked with organizing the timely removal of the remains, as well as conducting an investigation to determine the specific circumstances surrounding the animal's death.
