Why has the Black Sea fish catch fallen sharply, and is it linked to drone attacks on merchant ships off Bulgaria and Romania? BNR Burgas will discuss this today, 20 October, on its "Morning in Burgas" show. The morning programme runs from 7:00 to 10:00 am.
The guest is Kiril Zhеglev, head of the Nesebar fishermen's association and co-owner of fishing boats. The report is by Elena Dimitrova.
In the week before the presidential and vice-presidential election on 25 October, the show checks how older voters will cope with voting, which will be done entirely by machine.
The culture slot is about "Babylon", an exhibition by Zhanina Dubarova, who teaches at the Burgas branch of the National Academy of Art. In many of her works, the artist has included drawings of her son.
Updated (20.10, 08:11): BNT reports that Aleksandar Trapkov, head of a fishing association, spoke about the Black Sea catch, not Kiril Zheglev, as first reported. Trapkov says boats are coming back with less than 50% of the usual catch, while fuel costs are about €500-600 a day. Fish sells from the boat for about €1 to €3. Fuel aid is tied to a company's turnover, which makes things harder for fishermen when catches are poor.
