The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) is intensifying controls in connection with the introduction of the euro, the institution announced.
The CPC and the National Revenue Agency (NRA) are conducting joint inspections of food stores with a turnover of under 10 million leva. Last week, 80 joint inspections were carried out, with the CPC leading in 42 of them. Documents and information regarding the justification of prices have been requested.
At the beginning of December, a joint control campaign was also conducted in commercial establishments offering meat, meat products, and fish. 111 inspections were carried out, with the CPC leading in 66 of them.
Separate from the joint inspections, the CPC has requested justification of prices from 167 traders through the "How much does it cost" portal.
From October 9th to date, 31 acts have been issued for administrative violations for unjustified price increases under the Euro Introduction Act.
The CPC will continue to monitor for unjustified price increases in various sectors. The main priority is the protection of consumer rights and ensuring transparent commercial practices.
We remind you that on October 8th, the grace period expired, during which no fines were imposed for non-compliance with the Euro Introduction Act. Since then, prices must also be displayed in euros.
