The Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) is inspecting retailers of children's sports equipment, uniforms, and school supplies to determine whether prices have been unjustifiably increased compared to the same period last year. The regulator is monitoring the economic justification for every price hike and is taking administrative and punitive measures against traders who violate the law.
Traders have been warned that unfair price increases will not be tolerated. According to current legislation, such violations carry financial penalties ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 euros. If a violation affects more than one object, service, or good, a separate penalty is imposed for each individual violation, which can lead to significant total amounts.
Monitoring is ongoing across the entire country. In the last seven days alone, the CCP has inspected 583 establishments and issued 37 reports for establishing administrative violations. Of these, 23 cases were related to unjustified price increases, and for another 27 cases, notices were sent to issue an official report of administrative violation (ARAV) due to similar price hikes.
The scale of these enforcement activities is further confirmed by statistics related to the transition to the euro. From the start of dual pricing in August 2025 to date, the results are as follows:
- 14,535 inspections have been carried out;
- 1,142 reports for establishing administrative violations have been issued;
- 295 penalty decrees have been issued;
- 502 settlements have been concluded;
- the total amount of imposed sanctions reaches 1.41 million euros.
Since the beginning of September, the CCP has issued 46 penalty decrees and concluded 9 settlements, through which financial sanctions totaling over 205,000 euros have been imposed.
These KCP inspections directly affect consumers in Burgas and the region, ensuring fairer prices when purchasing school supplies and services.
Major market players are among the sanctioned entities. One national retail chain in the food sector will pay 15,000 euros for unjustified price increases. Another serious sanction of 30,700 euros was imposed on a mobile operator that repeatedly violated a CCP order prohibiting unfair trade practices.
