Since the beginning of the period in which the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria is in force, nearly 7,000 inspections have been carried out by the Commission for Consumer Protection (CPC). As a result of the inspections, about 700 acts have been drawn up and over 170 penal decrees have been issued, announced the chairman of the CPC, Alexander Kolyachev, to the Members of Parliament.
Kolyachev emphasized that only 10% of the inspections resulted in detected violations, which indicates a calm and stable market, as the transition to the euro is going better than expected.
Due to limited resources, the CPC is partnering with the National Revenue Agency (NRA) for market control. A strategy has been developed to cover small settlements and sectors where distortions are expected. Inspections are carried out jointly with the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) in the food sector, and in the following days, vending services and hotel services facilities will be checked.
Through the "How much does it cost" website, where traders of food products and the pharmacy network daily submit the prices of 1500 products, the price movement is monitored. From an institutional point of view, there is no problem with the introduction of the euro and the increase in basic goods.
