The supposed future of the BSP after the April 19 elections is the subject of serious discussions. The party chairman, Krum Zarkov, announced at a press conference that the decision on his remaining in office depends entirely on the trust of the National Council.
“If we don't get trust, I resign”
Zarkov stressed that the result of the parliamentary elections is “very bad” and leaves the BSP out of parliament. However, he called for acceptance of reality and took full responsibility for the achieved results.
“BSP is paying its price, but this is not the end of the party or the left in Bulgaria,” said the leader of the BSP.
Process of renewal and going “into the fresh air”
According to Zarkov, the next stage includes a large-scale process of reorganization:
- Renewal: Opening up to new people, fresh ideas and discussions.
- Community cause: Going out of the parliamentary halls directly to the people in the cities and villages.
- Mobilization: An appeal to the left-wing forces to participate in the May 1st procession under the flags of labor protection.
Financial situation and challenges
Despite the lack of parliamentary subsidies and mortgaged properties, Zarkov assured that the financial situation is not dramatic. He admitted that measures to reduce costs will be necessary, but stressed that the campaign was funded entirely transparently.
Regarding criticisms from former cadres such as Borislav Gutsanov, the leader of the BSP defined the reaction as expected and will be discussed at the upcoming National Council.
