Corruption or bad management? A multi-million scandal in Varna
The Municipality of Varna is embroiled in a massive corruption scandal after Vazrazhdane MP Kosta Stoyanov revealed a public procurement scheme worth nearly 9,000,000 euros. According to him, the set prices are several times higher than the national average.
Suspicious tenders worth over 6 million euros
One of the tenders concerns ongoing repairs to the road network and parks for the 2026-2027 period. "After an analysis, we established that the prices are artificially inflated. For example, asphalt concrete is valued at 715-894 euros per ton, while market prices are only 220-250 euros," Stoyanov points out.
This is a theft of budgetary funds on a particularly large scale. Over 50% of the tender value will likely be stolen, the MP claims.
Demand for resignation and termination of procedures
The second tender, worth over 2 million euros, concerns the repair of sidewalks and urban environment elements. "Vazrazhdane" insists that Mayor Blagomir Kotsev immediately halt the procedures and conduct new market consultations.
- Prices inflated 3 to 10 times.
- Suspicious offers from companies outside of Varna.
- Call for Mayor Kotsev to resign due to systematic damage to the public interest.
According to the representatives of "Vazrazhdane," the administration of Varna Municipality is harming the citizens, and public funds are being spent in an "outrageous manner."
