Changes in electoral legislation should increase voter turnout and trust. This was stated by Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova, MP from "BSP-United Left" .
One of the reasons we are in a state of acute political crisis is the lack of trust in the National Assembly, said Kiselova.
She also said that the position of "BSP-United Left" will be presented at a meeting of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs. "Our understanding is for scanning devices. My opinion is that we are not ready for this at the moment," she said.
Asked about the proposal of the formation to introduce pre-registration of citizens who did not vote in the previous elections, Kiselova replied that this was done at the beginning of the 51st National Assembly. We have sought options to reduce the influence of the human factor and how to fill in an up-to-date list of citizens with voting rights, said Natalia Kiselova and added that at the moment it is not correct to support the proposal and they will withdraw it.
"Currently, all citizens are registered at their current address. Our proposal was made in a context in which we would have at least a year before the elections. At the moment it is not correct to support it for one reason - when there is a short period between the adoption of proposals and implementation, it is not correct to create a commotion," she pointed out.
Regarding the method of voting, Kiselova commented that there are problems with machine voting. She gave the example of the Sofia mayoral elections in 2023. The profile of the voter in the last elections shows that more voted on paper and fewer on machines, said Kiselova.
Whatever change is made, all parliamentary groups must unite around it, said Natalia Kiselova.
BTA recalls that the chairman of BSP Atanas Zafirov told President Rumen Radev that the party supports machine voting, but not in the form in which it currently exists and not in the way the ballots are counted at the moment. According to Zafirov, a significant part of the voters also insist on paper voting, although that is where the greatest abuses occur. A serious conversation is forthcoming in the party and in the coalition on what our position should be regarding paper voting, Zafirov clarified.
